Sayframe Help
Practical fixes for paste behavior, permissions, local dictation, shortcuts, and transcript recovery before you contact support.
Contact supportPaste Reliability
If text does not appear in the target app, Sayframe keeps the transcript recoverable instead of pretending paste succeeded.
- Check Settings > Text Output & Paste Reliability.
- Use Insert at Cursor for automatic insertion, or Clipboard Only for manual paste.
- Grant Accessibility permission when prompted.
- Increase Paste delay to Safer or Slow apps for editors, browsers, terminals, and remote sessions.
- Leave Restore clipboard after paste enabled unless you want the transcript to remain on the clipboard.
Permissions
macOS controls microphone, Accessibility, and shortcut access. Sayframe shows recovery actions in Settings when a permission is missing.
- Microphone is required for live dictation.
- Accessibility is required for direct insertion and some global shortcut paths.
- Speech Recognition may be requested when Apple Speech is used.
- Install Sayframe in Applications before final permission setup.
Privacy and Models
Sayframe is local-first. Free dictation is designed to work without an account or cloud transcription.
- Whisper and Apple Speech run on your Mac.
- Cloud transcription providers stay off unless you enable consent for them.
- AI cleanup can use local Ollama or optional cloud providers depending on your settings.
- Fast local model support beyond Whisper is being evaluated and is not required for launch.
Library and Recovery
The Library keeps recent work visible after dictation, file import, or meeting processing.
- Use Library to copy, replay, export, or retry saved transcripts.
- If insertion fails, check the latest transcript before recording again.
- Use Settings > Advanced for saved Library repair and recovery backups.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Sayframe copy instead of paste?+
Sayframe copies the transcript when macOS paste access is unavailable, the focused app changes, or the target field rejects direct insertion. The text is still available on your clipboard and in the Library.
How do I make paste more reliable?+
Open Settings, choose Text Output & Paste Reliability, keep Insert at Cursor selected, grant Accessibility permission, and increase Paste delay to Safer or Slow apps for apps that need more time before Cmd+V.
Why does Sayframe need Accessibility permission?+
Accessibility lets Sayframe place text in the app you were using. Without it, Sayframe falls back to clipboard output so you can paste manually.
Does dictation work offline?+
Yes. On-device dictation uses local speech engines on your Mac. Cloud dictation and cloud AI cleanup are optional and require explicit provider consent.
Where are my transcripts saved?+
Sayframe keeps a local Library on your Mac for recent transcripts, retry paths, and export. You can copy, export, or delete entries from the app.
Can I use global shortcuts?+
Yes. Sayframe supports a global recording shortcut. If a shortcut conflicts with macOS or another app, choose another shortcut in Settings.
